About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated Specialty Doctor in Neurorehabilitation to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will provide expert medical care to patients with acquired brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, stroke, and other neurological conditions, supporting their recovery and functional rehabilitation.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to work in a specialist neurorehabilitation unit, collaborating with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, neuropsychologists, and specialist nurses to deliver patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, diagnoses, and management plans for patients with complex neurological conditions.
  • Monitor and adjust treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Lead ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and family meetings.
  • Provide specialist input on spasticity management, neuropathic pain, cognitive impairments, and mood disorders.
  • Participate in rehabilitation goal-setting and discharge planning.

Procedural & Medical Interventions:

  • Perform botulinum toxin injections for spasticity management.
  • Prescribe and manage medications for neurological symptoms (e.g., anti-spasticity drugs, neuropathic pain relief).
  • Assist in the management of tracheostomy, PEG feeding, and other complex medical needs in rehabilitation patients.

Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Collaboration:

  • Attend and contribute to MDT meetings, case conferences, and rehabilitation planning sessions.
  • Work closely with therapists to optimize patient mobility, communication, and independence.
  • Provide teaching and support to junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.

Administrative & Governance:

  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records in line with trust policies.
  • Participate in clinical audits, research, and service improvement projects.
  • Comply with CQC, GMC, and NHS governance standards.

Person Specification:

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Medical Degree (MBBS/MBChB or equivalent) with full GMC registration.
  • Minimum 4 years of postgraduate experience, including at least 2 years in neurology, rehabilitation medicine, or acute medical specialties (e.g., stroke medicine, neurosurgery).
  • Experience in neurorehabilitation settings (NHS or equivalent).
  • Competency in spasticity management (botulinum toxin injections preferred).
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and leadership skills.

Desirable Skills:

  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
  • Experience in tracheostomy/PEG management.
  • Research or publications in neurorehabilitation.
  • Teaching and supervision of junior staff.
